Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program

In February 2009, Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This act created a program for people experiencing a housing crisis as a result of the economic downturn. This program, known as the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program, targets people who would be homeless if not for monetary assistance and who can sustain their housing following that assistance.

Omaha and Council Bluffs was fortunate to receive approximately $3 million for this program. Family Housing Advisory Services administers the Homeless Prevention portion of the program for Omaha and Heartland Family Service administers the Rapid Rehousing portion for Omaha, as well as both Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing for Council Bluffs.
